The Meaning Of Lent

Lent is the time of year when many Christians reflect on Jesus’ journey to the cross and prepare their hearts for Easter.

Whether you are new to observing Lent or have been practicing it for years, it’s always good to take a moment and remind ourselves why we observe this important season in the Christian calendar.

This time of reflection and spiritual renewal can be an incredibly rewarding experience.

While it is sometimes thought of as a time of sacrifice and loss, Lent should be viewed as an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the Bible.

Lent can be used to reflect and meditate on spiritual matters and build closer relationships with God.

Let’s take a look at what observing Lent can do for you and why it should become part of your daily routine.

A Time for Reflection

Lent is an excellent opportunity for believers to reflect on their lives and sincerely think about how they can become better people through Christ.

During this period, many Christians abstain from certain worldly activities such as eating candy or drinking alcohol in order to focus solely on their relationship with God.

This time of abstinence is also a reminder that our lives should not be based around material things, but rather on our relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A Time for Renewal

The 40 days of Lent are also a great time for renewal – both spiritually and physically.

During this season, it’s important to take some time out each day to meditate on the Bible or spend some quiet time with God in prayer.

Additionally, it’s helpful to set aside five minutes per day for your daily devotional – whether that be reading a book or simply reflecting upon what God has done in your life so far.

By taking these small steps throughout the season of Lent, you can ensure that you find yourself feeling renewed spiritually at the end of the period.

A Time for Growth

Observing Lent is a fantastic way to grow closer to God while simultaneously growing closer together as members of His Church.

Participating in activities such as fasting or reading Scripture together can help bring believers closer together while strengthening one another’s faith in the process.

Additionally, when we come together during times like these, we are reminded that although we are all individuals, we are ultimately united under one banner – we are all Children of God!

The Power of Prayer

Prayer is one of the most powerful tools for connecting with God.

Through prayer, we create a direct line between ourselves and our Creator where we can share our thoughts, feelings, struggles, successes, and more.

During this period of Lent, prayer becomes even more important because it helps deepen our relationship with God.

As we read the Bible and learn more about Jesus’ teachings, prayer allows us to further explore these topics in conversation with our Lord.

Developing Faithfulness

One thing that many people forget during the season of Lent is that it’s not just about giving up something; it’s also about taking something on—namely faithfulness in your relationship with God!

Taking on faithfulness means striving towards consistency in all areas of life—both spiritual ones like prayer and physical ones like diet or exercise—as well as developing self-discipline so that no matter what comes up throughout life’s trials or temptations, you stay true to your commitment to serve God first in all things.

Doing so will bring blessings into every aspect of your life!

40 Days of Wisdom Devotional Emails

To help you along your journey through Lent, consider joining us for a five minutes per day daily devotional sent via email.

Every day throughout Lent we’ll ping you an email containing a specially chosen Bible verse and our thoughts on its meaning.

These emails contain Scripture readings that are intended to help you focus on key aspects of Christianity such as forgiveness, grace, mercy, peace-making, etc., while also providing an opportunity for guided reflection on each passage.

In addition to helping you become better acquainted with the Bible itself, these daily devotionals will help guide your conversations with God during this time of contemplation and renewal.

Feel part of a community as we all reflect on the same Bible verse every day.

Examples of the verses we will cover are:

  • 1 Peter 5:6 “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”
  • Ecclesiastes 3:20 “All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return.”
  • Hosea 12:6 “So you, by the help of your God, return, hold fast to love and justice, and wait continually for your God.”
  • Psalm 42:2 “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?”
  • Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Each email will list the verse of the day and give a short paragraph describing our interpretation and how it applies to the Lenten season.  All you need to do is read the verse and the paragraph and spend a couple of minutes reflecting on that, thinking about the deeper meaning of the verse and whether or not you agree with our interpretation.

For those who have time for a deeper reflection, we go into a bit more detail in a longer analysis – but it’s entirely up to you whether or not you continue past this point.

And as a bonus, you’ll be able to download the image of the Bible verse to keep handy throughout the day. Check out the sample image below.

In addition, Lent is an important season for Christians because it gives us an opportunity to reflect on Jesus’ life and death every year.

While some people may choose not to observe Lent at all, those who do will find that this 40-day period can bring them closer than ever before with God as they remember his great love and sacrifice for us all through prayer and acts of self-denial.

Regardless of how you choose to celebrate this season, use it as a chance to remember why we worship our Lord every day!

Overall, observing Lent is an incredibly rewarding experience that allows us to draw closer to God while also strengthening our relationships with other believers.

Remember that observing Lent doesn’t have to involve giving anything up – it can also be seen as an opportunity to gain something amazing – a deeper understanding of the bible!

Take advantage of this special season by spending five minutes each day reflecting on scripture readings sent via email from us!

Through this time spent in prayer and meditation on spiritual matters, develop greater faithfulness in your relationship with God so that no matter what comes up throughout life’s trials or temptations, you stay true to Him first in all things!

So, if you haven’t already taken part in this spiritual practice, consider joining us this year as we observe this special time by engaging in five minutes per day of daily devotionals! May peace be within your walls! Amen!

Join us today so that together, we can make the most out of this special time leading up to Easter!
