How Old is God?

Hey there! Ever caught yourself daydreaming about how old God might be? It's like the ultimate mystery that's kept people curious for ages, making us ponder the big questions about life and the awesome divine.

In a world where clocks just won't quit ticking and days keep marching on, many of us believe God is like a time-bending superhero – totally timeless and not playing by the usual rules of our everyday reality!

Some Clues

Now, taking a look at the Bible, which is like a guidebook for Christianity, gives us some clues about God's age:

  • Revelation 1:8 boldly refers to God as the "Alpha and Omega," suggesting a cosmic significance that encompasses both the origin and culmination of all existence.

Revelation 1:8 (ESV)

"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."

The Psalms, a poetic exploration of faith, vividly depict God's presence as extending back to a time before time itself and stretching forward into an everlasting future. Here, the Psalmist reflects on the enduring nature of God amidst the changing and temporary nature of the created world

Psalm 90:2 (ESV)

"Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God."

This verse emphasizes the timeless nature of God, existing from eternity past to eternity future.

Psalm 102:25-27 (ESV)

"Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end."

Psalm 102:12 (ESV)

"But you, O Lord, are enthroned forever; you are remembered throughout all generations."

Psalm 90:4 (ESV)

"For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night."

  • Malachi 3:6 reinforces the idea of God's unchanging nature, emphasizing a timeless constancy that weathers the fluctuations of time.

Malachi 3:6 (ESV)

"For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed."

Isaiah 40:28 (ESV)

"Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable."

  • 1 Timothy 1:17 is a proclamation of God's eternal kingship, His divine attributes of immortality and invisibility, and a call to offer perpetual honor and glory to the singular God.

1 Timothy 1:17 (ESV)

"To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen."

  • Revelation 22:13 is a powerful affirmation of Jesus' eternal and all-encompassing nature. It establishes Him as the ultimate and complete reality, existing beyond the limitations of time and space.

Revelation 22:13 (ESV)

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end."

But here's the twist, as we try to wrap our heads around these ancient texts, we hit a humbling realization – it's like trying to fit a galaxy into a backpack.

Our human words and brains have their limits, especially when it comes to understanding how God can be forever. You know, our usual way of looking at time – with clear beginnings and tidy endings – doesn't quite cut it when we're talking about God.

It's like trying to fit an epic movie into a TikTok – just doesn't capture all the awesomeness!

Now, stepping out of the ancient texts, let's dive into a world where people chat about God's age like it's the coolest topic ever. It's like this big, colorful puzzle made up of loads of ideas from super smart people – theologists and philosophers. They're in this exciting back-and-forth, tossing around different thoughts about what 'eternal' really means.

Is it like God's been around even before the universe kicked off, or is it more like God's hanging out in a time-free zone? It's like a giant jigsaw, and everyone's trying to figure out which piece goes where!

Why does the age of God matter, and why does this mystery persist?

It serves as a rock-solid foundation for faith, giving us something steady and sure to hold onto, especially when everything around us is changing all the time.

It's like having a strong base to build our beliefs on, providing a sense of comfort and assurance in the midst of the ever-shifting landscapes of our world.

When we take a moment to think about God being forever, it becomes like a never-ending well of comfort and hope.

It's kind of like having a friend who's always there, no matter what's going on in our unpredictable journey of life. It's a source of strength, like a constant companion walking alongside us in both sunny days and stormy nights.

And you know what's pretty cool? Just thinking about how old God might be becomes this humbling exercise. It's like a friendly reminder that our brains have limits, and that's totally okay.

It brings us back down to earth, making us feel small in a good way, and it adds this deep sense of awe when we realize there's so much about the divine mystery that we might not fully grasp.

So, even if the question of how old God is doesn't have a simple answer that fits into our everyday understanding, it's like an open invitation.

It's an invitation to dive into the big questions about existence, the divine, and where we fit into the grand picture of the universe – like unwrapping a gift that keeps on giving.

Conclusion

Summing it all up, unraveling the mystery of how old God is becomes this incredible journey of faith. It's like setting off on a thrilling adventure, with the Bible as our trusty guide, leading us through the twists and turns of understanding the divine.

And you know what? It's perfectly okay to admit that there are limits to what our brains can fully grasp.

Picture it like being invited to the coolest mystery party ever. We're handed an intriguing puzzle, and as we try to piece it together, we realize that some parts about God are just too immense for us to wrap our minds around completely.

And you know what makes it even more exciting? The acceptance that it's okay not to have all the answers. It's like embracing the wonder of the unknown and finding joy in the ongoing exploration of faith.

While we might not have a neatly wrapped-up answer to how old God is, it's like being part of this ongoing and fascinating quest.

It's an invitation to keep exploring the nature of existence, the divine, and our role in the grand tapestry of the universe.

And hey, isn't it wonderful that in this adventure, faith becomes the compass guiding us through the mystery, reminding us that sometimes, the beauty lies in the journey itself.
