1. Jesus Served Others Humbly and Practically

One of Jesus’ most compelling examples of selflessness is the simple yet profound act of washing His disciples' feet. In the ancient world, this task was reserved for the lowliest servants. Yet Jesus willingly performed it, teaching His followers that greatness is measured in humility and service: John 13:4–5 (KJV) "He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet…"

For example, in Mark 1:32-34, the Bible records that after sunset, people brought many who were sick and possessed with devils to Him, and He healed them all.

Jesus’ compassion extended to those in need. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and comforted the grieving. When He saw the crowd following Him, “He was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd” (Mark 6:34, KJV). Though He was sinless, He bore the punishment we deserved so we could have eternal life. He surrendered His own desires for God’s will: As He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus said, “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done” (Luke 22:42, KJV).

His sacrifice was an act of love, fulfilling John 15:13 (KJV): “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
