Word of the Day : Compassion

Oct 14, 2021 | Words of Wisdom

COMPASSION – a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering

Author Fredrick Buechner describes what it means to have compassion:

“Compassion is sometimes the fatal capacity for feeling what it is like to live inside somebody else’s skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too.”

It’s a fuller, truer definition than feelings alone, and it’s a very biblical understanding.

Scripture: Ephesians 4:32

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Saying:

“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.”
